Professor Toby Newton-John

Professor Newton-John is a Senior Clinical Psychologist who has been involved in chronic pain treatment and research since 1993. He completed his clinical training in psychology at the University of Sydney, before moving to the United Kingdom to undertake a PhD at the University of London. He has held clinical psychology positions with pain clinics at St Thomas’ Hospital London, The National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, London and the ADAPT pain program at Royal North Shore Hospital, Sydney. He established and managed the multidisciplinary Innervate Pain Program in Newcastle before joining Northern Pain Centre as a founding member.
When not at Northern Pain Centre, Professor Newton-John is a Senior Lecturer in Clinical Psychology at University of Technology, Sydney. He provides clinical supervision to postgraduate clinical psychology trainees and supervises PhD student dissertations. He is an Associate Editor for Australian Psychologist and is currently a reviewer for the journals Pain, Journal of Pain and European Journal of Pain. He was a Series Editor for the second edition of the textbook Clinical Pain Management. He has published over 40 peer reviewed scientific papers, reviews and book chapters on psychological aspects of pain and presented his work at conferences throughout Australia as well as in the UK, USA, Europe, Canada and Malaysia.
Professor Newton-John is a member of the Australian Pain Society, International Association for the Study of Pain and the Australian Clinical Psychology Association.
