Dr Lewis Holford is an Interventional Pain Medicine Specialist and Director of the Northern Pain Centre. He specialises in minimally invasive interventions as a component of a multidisciplinary approach to the treatment of persistent pain with the goal of relieving pain and improving function and quality of life.

Dr Holford has over 20 years experience in Interventional Pain Medicine with expertise in the use of spinal cord stimulation and a comprehensive range of radiofrequency procedures and image guided injections in the treatment of pain conditions including:

  • Back pain
  • Neck pain
  • Pain after spine surgery
  • Neuropathic pain
  • Complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS)
  • Shoulder pain
  • Knee and hip pain

Dr Holford has specialist qualifications in both Pain Medicine and Anaesthesia. He obtained Fellowship of the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists in 2006. He underwent subspecialty training in Pain Medicine and completed a comprehensive Interventional Pain Medicine Specialist Fellowship at Royal North Shore Hospital Pain Management and Research Centre and was awarded Fellowship of the Faculty of Pain Medicine in 2007. He has subsequently undertaken advanced training in interventional pain management techniques including radiofrequency treatment and neuromodulation in Australia, the United Kingdom and the United States.

Interventional Pain Medicine is a new and rapidly developing field and Dr Holford is committed to offering patients the most up to date evidence based treatment. He is actively involved in education, clinical research and clinical governance of Pain Medicine. He is a member of the Faculty of Pain Medicine committees overseeing the development of the FPM Procedural Endorsement Pathway for procedural training and credentialling in Pain Medicine. He is a member of the International Neuromodulation Society, the International Pain and Spine Intervention Society, The International Association for the Study of Pain and the Australian Pain Society.
