Dr. Martine Holford

Dr. Martine Holford is a Pain Medicine Specialist and Anaesthetist. She attained her medical degree at University of Queensland in 1996 and went on to complete her anaesthetic training in 2004. Management of acute injuries and post-operative pain under the umbrella of anaesthetics piqued an interest in Pain Medicine. She went on to further training in the subspecialty at the Professor Tess Cramond Pain Management Centre of Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, Brisbane in 2005.
Dr. Holford attained the Merit Award for Achievement in the Faculty of Pain Medicine Examinations in 2005 and was admitted to the Faculty of Pain Medicine early in 2006. She continued to work as a Consultant Anaesthetist and Pain Medicine Specialist at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital until re-locating to Sydney in late 2006. She is currently appointed as Consultant Anaesthetist and Pain Medicine Specialist at St Vincent’s Hospital and is a member of the St Vincent’s Private Anaesthetic Department.
Dr. Holford has a long held commitment to medical education. She was a member of the Board of Examiners for the Faculty of Pain Medicine and performed the role of Head of Anaesthetics at Notre Dame University School of Medicine.
Her area of special interest is spinal pain, complex regional pain syndrome and the intersection of mind and body in the genesis, perpetuation and management of persistent pain.
Dr Holford is the Medical Director and developer of the Empower Pain Management Program, Northern Pain Centre’s intensive 3 week pain management program based on the principles of active self-management and cognitive behavioural therapy. Our program is based on the latest clinical research in pain management.
